When was Music Xray conceived, and what makes the service unique?
Music Xray was founded in early 2006. I had spent the previous 5 years as CEO and co-founder of a company called Polyphonic HMI (now uplaya.com) where we were using computer analysis of music to predict hit songs. My background in the use of computer analysis of music is extensive. Music Xray was always intended to be an evolution on that theme. Rather than a simple prediction of hit potential (assuming the song were promoted as a hit) we wanted to create a more practical use of web 2.0 and other technology-driven tools to build solutions to real problems faced by both artists and the industry. In particular, how to filter through all the music out there to find appropriate commercial uses for as much music as possible.
