When was infrared spectroscopy discovered?
Sir Frederick William Herschel (1738-1822) discovered infrared spectroscopy in 1800 while studying the separation of light by prisms. He discovered a band of invisible but high-temperature radiation just below the visible frequencies of light. Herschel is also famous for discovering the planet Uranus in 1781.References:Cool Cosmos: Infrared Astronomy”Astronomy for Dummies;” Stephen P.
