When was Heineken founded?
Heineken was founded in 1864, when Gerard Adriaan Heineken [1841?-March 18, 1893] bought a pre-existing brewery ka Den Hoyberg. Heineken changed the name, and the beer into a higher quality product. For his brewery was the world’s first to have on its premises a quality-control lab. The lab was headed by Dr. H. Elion, a student of Louis Pasteur [December 27, 1822-September 28, 1895]. Elion was responsible for the Heineken A-yeast that gives the beer that unique Heineken taste, and has made it one of the Netherlands’ best-selling and most important export products.
