When Was Doncaster Rovers Football Club Founded?
Doncaster Rovers Football Club was founded in 1879 by a railfitter named Albert Jenkins for the London and North Eastern Railway company based in Doncaster. The club played their home games at the ground of Belle Vue until 2006. It was opened on 26th August 1922 and had an original capacity for 7,000 people. This increased as the club’s fan base and funds developed. By 1938 the ground was big enough to capacitate 40,000 people. However, when subsidence set in the ground during the 1980s, the club was forced to decrease the area to hold as few as 5,000 fans. The chairman of the club, Ken Richardson, took matters into his own hands and was responsible for setting fire to the stadium in order to gain money from their insurance company. He was jailed for four years. Although the stadium was repaired, Doncaster Rovers have since moved to the newly built Keepmoat Stadium with a capacity for 15,000 spectators. Doncaster Rovers currently reside in the League One division. They finished in 9th
