When was Divine Word declared a univeristy?
Divine Word University was declared as a university by the National Executive Council in 1996 under then prime minister Sir Julius Chan. It was established by an Act of Parliament in 1980 as the Divine Word Institute. DWU is a university with Catholic heritage. The University is open to everyone regardless of race, creed, colour or gender who share its vision to serve society through its teaching and research in a Christian environment.
