When was Buddhism founded?
Buddhism was founded in approximately 500 B.C. (2500 years ago). It was founded by a prince named Siddhartha Gautama who was born in Lumbini, Nepal. He was a prince and was surrounded by luxury. Against his father’s wishes, Siddhartha left his kingdom and searched for the 4 Noble Truths about suffering. He then sat and fasted under a sacred tree (Bodhi tree (the tree of awakening) for 40 days. Finally he understood life and suffering and he became known as the Buddha or “the enlightened one.” He then went to India to teach others too.
