When visiting Niagara Falls, Canada, do I have to exchange my money?
Many businesses in the Niagara Falls area will accept both Canadian and U.S. currency. However, there are some things to keep in mind when paying in U.S. cash. First of all, most Canadian ATM’s will not give you U.S. cash. You’d need to go to the actual bank to do that, and they may charge a hefty service fee for this. While businesses can and do accept U.S. money for payment, they probably won’t give U.S. change, and there’s absolutely nothing that requires them to. Also, businesses that do accept U.S. money probably won’t be giving a good exchange rate. The banks and casino will have the best rates; currency exchange booths and local businesses should be avoided for this. My advice would be to change over some of your money to Canadian currency prior to coming across, and using your credit card for larger purchases (big shopping trips, hotels, etc.).
