When using the basic cream cheese frosting, is it necessary to refrigerate the cake?
Depending on the temperature of your home you can leave cream cheese frosted cakes at room temperature for a period of time. However, if it is quite warm you would want to refrigerate it and remove it approximately 1 hr before serving. I ususally serve the cake the same day and leave it at room temperature but refrigerate any leftovers. If you are refrigerating the item please make sure to cover securely because the frosting can pick up refrigerator odors.
