When using free WiFi do you need a router?
whenever you want wifi access, you need to be close to a WAP – wireless access point. If you intend to use wireless in your home, you should have a wireless capable router that is configured correctly. Make sure security is enabled! If you plan on using wireless where there is access like schools and library’s and many state buildings, you do not need a router. Routers are for networking and can be wired or wireless. You can get simple routers with wireless for home and home/office use. Larger and faster routers are available but are unnecessary for the typical home user.
