When using fertilizer, what do the 3 numbers mean: such as 20-20-20 or 24-9-18?
Those 3 numbers are the nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (in that order) and are the percentages of each in that bag (or jar) of fertilizer. I always use one that has a HIGH phosphorus percentage (the first number) because it really helps in making more flowers bloom, to where the nitrogen & potassium is for root growth and the foliage. I personally use this stuff called “Super Bloom” for the high phosphorus percent, mixed with Miracle Grow for the healthier foliage. What Miracle Grow mostly does is feed the foliage, which makes the plants foliage bigger, but not more blooms, so that’s why I mix the two together to get the best of both!! Here’s some more info for you on the subject and best of luck to you in whatever you grow!! http://www.howstuffworks.com/question181.
