When to worry about blood clots during period?
Having such an irregular period, in your case, has led to not much build up on the uterine wall. Now that you are on birth control you body has time to build up a lining in the uterus and when it is not used to hold a fertilized egg it all is moved out of your body. That is what your period is. Since you have regular periods now, the blood clots are completely normal since there is a thicker lining in your uterus that needs to be shed. The cramps are caused by the clots. The blood clots have to move through your tiny cervix with can be painful. I’ve found that using a muscle relaxer like Ibuprofen helps me a lot. And when I get a bad cramp I push like I’m pooping and it will push the cloth through the cervix faster making the pain subside. It is completely normal, but for most people birth control will make a period lighter, you might want to ask your gyno if you could switch to a different one or go off it because you don’t like how it changed your cycle so much.
