When to transplant a holly oak…?
Your Quercus ilex is an evergreen so you could transplant it anytime. You might want to wait a couple of weeks though. Fall is the prime time for those pesky fungus and disease spores and any damage to your holly oak might invite invasion. It’s a good idea that you move it since the Cal Poly site lists it as poisonous. http://selectree.calpoly.edu/treedetail_… Make sure that you get as much of the root system as possible and don’t dig the new hole any deeper than your root ball. Make sure that the root ball stays moist until the tree is established and you should be fine.
