When to Hang Buddhist Prayer Flags?
Buddhist prayer flags have become a popular addition to decor in people’s homes, but few people outside of the Tibetan Buddhist religion understand their significance or know when it is appropriate to hang them. As early as 800 C.E., the shaman of Bon, an early Tibetan spiritual tradition, made prayer flags in five colors, representing the five elements. As Tibetan Buddhism blended with Bon, the prayer flags were adopted into the religion. They are now hung on specific occasions by Buddhists of the Tibetan sect living all over the world.
