When they were discussing IRCA were they talking about putting National Guard troops on the border?
I never let it come up. I just said I won’t accept them. We beat back some amendments like that. I said I think that, and not just National Guard but also local sheriffs and local police. I said that would not be good. That is not going to be a healthy thing if you ever allow local sheriffs, local police. We didn’t think of National Guard but anybody doing border work without the sensitivity of the trained person you’ve got real problems. And now you see a real hard push on trying to get local police in on it. And the local sheriffs. That’s because they get elected and their constituents are going to say, ‘Hey, pal, you know you and your patrol, and my whole quail country out there.
