When the drought ends, will bark beetle populations shrink?
While drought conditions continue to ease across many areas in New Mexico, the bark beetle spread will lessen. However, consequences of the prolonged drought will be felt in some areas for years, as soil and vegetation returns to normal moisture levels. Until this happens, bark beetles will continue to be prevalent in some locations.
