When taken off Coumadin, will the PT level be affected by Vitamin K foods?
The PT is affected by how much vitamin K you eat, but not to a large extent. Coumadin works by blocking vitamin K from being part of the clotting cycle, so if you did not eat ANYTHING with vitamin K in it (which is REALLY hard to do!), it might be as though you were on Coumadin. But a normal person who eats a whole lot of vitamin K (a vegetarian, for example) does not clot too much.
