When should tricyclic antidepressants be avoided?
• Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) are contraindicated in people taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors. • Avoid using a TCA in people with: • Established cardiovascular disease (CVD) or a significantly increased risk of CVD. • Epilepsy. • Narrow-angle glaucoma. • Symptoms suggestive of prostatic hypertrophy. • An increased risk of suicide or accidental death from overdose.
