When should the Oncotype DX test be used?
The Oncotype DX test is appropriate for newly diagnosed women whose disease meets the criteria below. You may wish to discuss with your physician whether Oncotype DX may be of benefit to you. The Oncotype DX test is performed on tumor tissue removed during the original surgery. Because of this, the Oncotype DX test does not require additional surgery. It is appropriate for your physician to order this test prior to starting a chemotherapy treatment regimen, since the information provided by the Oncotype DX test can help determine the most appropriate type of treatment for each woman’s individual cancer. If you do not know the stage of your breast tumor, or your estrogen receptor or nodal status, please check with your doctor and request a copy of your pathology report.
