When should students ask for recommendation letters for college applications?
[Back to Top] Letters of recommendation are an important part of the college admission process. Adequate time and preparation should be devoted to this process. Students often approach teachers, counselors, coaches, clergy members, and family friends to write letters of recommendation. Students should provide the adult with a resume at least two weeks prior to the time that the recommendation is needed. Students should be considerate and realize that many letters of recommendation are requested during the same time period.
