When should students actually begin thinking about the financial aid process?
Many high schools have workshops on financial aid. As early as the junior year in high school, students can begin gathering information. The fall semester of the senior year would be the time to check out all of the academic and merit scholarships that might be available from colleges and outside organizations. The actual application for need-based financial aid, the FAFSA, will be available after January 1.
