When should people book holiday flights?
They should start looking now. Once we get past the Fourth of July weekend, we do expect to see some sales. I would be watching the cities you want to go to, and I would try to book it sometime in late July and August. What about Charlotte and US Airways, which operates 87% of the flights here? I believe US Airways has kept fares more reasonable in Charlotte than in some cities. It sure hasn’t nickeled and dimed you as badly as they have in other markets. At small regional airports, some airlines have increased fares $390 to $420 above what they were in December. I believe US Airways has maintained a higher price point than some of the low-cost carriers, but at the same time you’re not experiencing the full impact other cities are getting. For example, if you travel to a city like Spokane, Wash., from Charlotte, I’m still seeing the round-trip airfare as $540.
