When should I turn off dsync?
The UNIX dsync option allows Adaptive Server writes to device files to occur directly on the physical storage media. To ensure recovery, Adaptive Server by default initializes UNIX file system devices using dsync on. Dsync is always turned on for the master device on UNIX platforms. Turn off dsync if: • Data integrity is not required. • To improve performance, as writes to database device files may be slower. • Turn off dsync for tempdb to increase disk init performance on UNIX file systems. • You are using HP-UX or Digital UNIX, which will have poor performance during Adaptive Server update operations.
