The need to take a Y-chromosome DNA SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) test panel for your haplogroup depends on your research interests. If your interest is in your ancient ancestry and prehistoric migrations of your Y-chromosome lineage, then taking one of our Y-chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) Deep Clade tests is a good idea. On the other hand, if your interest is only in your Y-chromosome lineage in genealogical times (1 to 15 generations), then a haplogroup test will not reveal additional relevant information. Note also that most individuals do not need a test to confirm their backbone haplogroup.
