When should I plant bulbs in Nebraska?

For lilies and glads (which aren’t really bulbs, but close enough) and other flowers that bloom in the summer and fall, plant them as soon as the ground is thawed down to about six inches. They should keep OK. For spring flowers like tulips, hyacinths, crocus, etc., you plant in the fall, like late September or early October. The ground should be cold but not frozen yet. If you plant them too early, they will sprout, and then get frozen.
