When should I bring the child back to the medical home for re-screening instead of sending them directly to JTC for audiology assessment?

If the child has middle ear effusion (MEE) and refers on the tymp screen, and passes the OAE screen, re-test the child in the medical home first. The fact that the child passed the OAE screen suggests minimal effect of the MEE on hearing at the time. At any re-screen for monitoring of MEE, if the child refers on the OAE send for audiological assessment. If re-screening shows persistence of middle ear fluid for at least six months, refer to ENT as well.
