When should i apply for housing benefit?
Apply as soon as you have a move in date, you’ll need to provide some proof of the place your going to be living in, a rental agreement or a rent proof form signed your landlord. As well as other stuff lke proof of benefits received etc. Make sure you send everything they ask for, if you miss anything it will hold up your application and you’ll have to wait longer. They will pay rent from the time you move in but it can take up to 6 weeks before you’ll receive anything from them and another 2 weeks before you’ll get your first rent payment so take this into account. Most places that will accept housing benefit already know this anyway but beware it takes a long time.
