When Should Children Get the Hib Vaccine?
Children should get 3 to 4 doses (depending upon product used) of the Hib Vaccine, at: • 2 months • 4 months • 6 months (depending upon product used), and • 12-15 months* *Since December 2007 due to a vaccine shortage, this final dose is deferred unless the child is at higher risk for Hib disease. Risk factors include: loss of spleen, a spleen that does not work (for example, sickle cell disease), an immune system preblem, or if a person is American Indian or Alaska Native.
