When should be fertilizers applied to dry land crops?
Phosphatic and potassic fertilizers need to be applied as a single dose at the time of sowing. In heavy soils nitrogenous fertilizers can be applied in single dose as basal application. This is particularly true for rabi crops. Split application of nitrogen is preferred in lighter soils where leaching of nitrogen beyond the root zone is likely occur. The first application is at the time of sowing and the second application should be made keeping soil moisture in view.
