When should a child know right from wrong?
You teach your child right and wrong- then they get it wrong. So, you teach them again, and again, and again. It is a repetative thing and must be consistent. With everything you teach your children, it takes time for them to learn it and once they do, it is a healthy part of their growing up to begin testing you on what is right and wrong. Really, by the time they are the age of majority you hope they will make the right choices between right and wrong. Just don’t go slapping a 2 year old because you said “no no” and they laughed and did it anyway. Parents that do this make me CRAZY. I read an interesting article the other day about how a part of the brain that controls responsibility and making the right choice (frontal lobe?) doesn’t fully develop until in our twenties. This could explain why a lot of teenagers still have poor judgement, behave irresponsibly, and choose wrong over right.
