When Shopping for Insurance Is It Best to Use an Agent, a Quote Service, or Buy Direct?
This is a key question. If you have time, I believe you can be just as effective shopping for yourself as using an agent or a service. Many company websites will allow you to get general quotes with a little bit of information about you, other drivers and occupants, and your home or autos. The more information you have the more accurate the quote. My past experience was people will shop the insurance company websites and then call the company, or an agent, once they find a quote they like. I’m not sure the reason for this, but my philosophy is that if you spend the time to find a quote you like, buy it. You are not going to change the price by calling the company, or an agent if all information is the same. If you are going to put in all the time to shop around and then call an agent, why not call an agent in the first place? Let them earn their money working for you instead doing all the work yourself and giving them the commission for your work. As for using a service that will “shop
