Tubes are still commonly used in guitar amplifiers and in power amps in high end stereo systems. Many different tubes are popular, including the much beloved EL34, KT88, 6550 and 6L6. Tubes eventually wear out and must be replaced, and when they do, the amplifier tubes must be biased.
