When renovating a bathroom what is a comprehensive list of tips I should follow?

First things first…do you have a second bathroom to use while the first one is being renovated?  If not, then you will need to set up a makeshift bathroom.

Second, get everything you think you will need BEFORE you start the project.  You will inevitably have a situation where you forgot something.

Third, are you doing the work yourself or hiring out contractors?  If you are hiring out, only pay for part of the work up front.  You don’t want to be left with a half finished job and the payment already made.  Good contractors will allow for partial payment and then remaining payments after completion.

Fourth, if you are doing the work yourself, get the right tools.  Don’t skimp here.  Just becasue you CAN use the head of a wrench like a hammer doesn’t mean you should.

Fifth, if you are new at something, try on scrap before you try to do it for real.  When I learned how to do plumbing, I wasn’t sure exactly how flux, solder, and copper pipe would all come together.  So I tried it first on some scrap pieces to get the hang of things before doing it on the project.
