Storage media are nonvolatile. This means that when you shut off power to a storage device, the date stored on that device’s medium will still be there when you ture the device back on. This feature contrasts with conventional RAM, which is volatile. As discussed previously, programs and documents held in RAM are erased once they are no longer needed or the power to the computer is turned off.
