When referring to “bitters” in an alcoholic mixed drink what exactly are they?
Caroline is right, but copying it right out of Wikipedia is cheating. Here’s some info you can use: A good liquor store will carry the small bottle of bitters, and it should be less than $6. It will last you for many years — you only use 1-3 drops in a drink. It has a strong, spicy, bitter, and somewhat vanilla taste to it. There is really no substitute for it in certain drink recipes. Many people don’t like it at all.
