When recording audio, is there a big difference in sound quality between .wma & .wav?
BIG time difference in sound quality of WAV compared to the others. WAV is uncompressed, which is why it takes up a lot of space. The catch is to find a way to compress a format so that it takes up less space, without sacrificing quality. But it’s always a trade-off. Quality vs Size. WMA and MP3 are just two formats that use compression. With software, you can set the compression rate and the difference between WMA and MP3 for the same compression is not much different. But when deciding on WAV or a compressed format, or how MUCH compression, it depends on what’s being used. For example, my personal MP3 player is mediocre, and sound quality from it is about 128K, even if my files are higher quality. So there’s no point in wasting space on my MP3 player for better files when I can’t hear it anyway. But on my computer, the audio system is a bit better. For that, I’d want 256K or even 320K compression, which is a lot better quality. (Still not as good as WAV.) No point in going as high as
