When planting Alpines in a rockery, do I need to use ericaceous soil?
Alpines in rockeries do not need ericaceous soil. There are specially proiduced alpine soils ready mixed from garden centres if you a planning to specialise in the miniture varieties in a container but outside you should provide a mixture of ordinary garden soil with a plenty of drainage such as pea gravel.and a good handful of compost into the hole. Choose varieties that suit your garden and your area talk to you local garden centre if you need further guidance.
