When people ask for dSLR recommendations why do we hear very little about Pentax and Olympus?
It appears that some people in this group are nothing more than “hawkers” for Nikon and Canon. These people say that they are professional but tend to spend an abnormal amount of time going through questions and answering them. Nikon and Canon have marketed to the pro market for years and then used their names to get into the larger amateur market. Hawking them incessantly on this group is doing an injustice to those who don’t need the large lens offerings of those lines. Most people on this group are well served by a short zoom and a medium range zoom, or with my 35mm cameras, I am happy with a 28, 50, 135 for the most part, but also have a 35-70 and a 70-210. Canon and Nikon are neither mechanically nor electronically better than any other cameras. Their optics are not any better than the optics of Olympus, Pentax, Sony or any other brand. The Samsung comes with a Schneider and while others might know the names of Zeiss and Leica better, Schneider is right in there with them producin
