if he is starting divorce proceedings theres not much you can do about it you wouldnt get legal aid to dispute a divorce, in british law its basically down to who gets in first with the divorce petition that lists the reasons (whether theyre true or not) you need to go and see a solicitor yourself, most do a free half hour appointment for advice
