When learning the acoustic guitar is there any point learning/using power chords?

As an acoustic guitarist, there is not much of a need for power chords. They do sound clunky and thin on acoustic. However, they are very easy to learn and are excellent for teaching root notes on the 5th and 6th string. The small amount of effort to learn them, probably a day or two, provides benefits outweighing that effort. There are literally hundreds of websites that teach music theory especially as related to the guitar. just google it and find one that suits you. I recommend learning to read treble clef (and play the notes you read) and basic chords such as G, D, C, Em, A etc. as these will probably be the focus of your first few lessons.
