When John Lennon died, how did the other members of the Beatles feel/react?
The Beatles were still a bit distraught and angry that John Lennon broke them up just after their peak, and many blame his new wife Yoko Ohno (Beatles fans still resent her). Paul and John had actually shared a hotel room just before his death, and reconciled their friendship that night in New York. Paul said that he and John had been watching Saturday Night Live that night and the host that night made a joke daring the Beatles to show up on the show, not knowing Paul and John were actually in the city. They both toyed with the idea to surprise them on the set, but decided that they were much too tired to. (It’s too bad they didn’t.) When reporters asked Paul about his reaction, the day of, he stated “It’s a drag.” He didn’t say any more, and many interpreted it to be hostile and uncaring, but the truth he relieved later about how hurt he was, he had no words to say and had no want to talk to reporters due to his grieving.
