When is Water Pressure to High or to Low?
The City of Schertz Water Department is regulated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The TCEQ rules state “the system must be designed to maintain a minimum pressure of 35 psi at all points within the distribution network at flow rates of at least 1.5 gallons per minute per connection”. The deviation in elevation throughout Schertz’s water service area makes it impossible to maintain one constant pressure zone for our customers. Higher elevations will tend to have lower water pressures and lower elevations toward higher pressures. The Schertz water system is designed to provide a minimum of 750 gpm fire hydrant flow and insuring that we meet the minimum water pressure requirements. It is important to know that the Texas/Schertz plumbing/building code requires a pressure reducing valve to be installed when water pressures at the residence exceeds 80psi.. Although the working pressures of house plumbing and appliances exceed 80psi, some insurance companies will not
