When is TomoTherapy used?
TomoTherapy can be used anywhere radiation is effective. It is used most often to treat cancer in the prostate, spine, head, neck and brain. TomoTherapy also may be recommended for patients who’ve previously undergone radiation therapy. What can I expect during a treatment session? For each TomoTherapy treatment, you will lie on a treatment couch that will move within the TomoTherapy machine. You must remain completely still during the treatment process, which typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes from start to finish. Including the time necessary to position you on the treatment table, you can expect to spend 20 to 30 minutes in the treatment room for each session. The treatment couch will move to take initial image using the TomoTherapy machine.
