When is the right time to get engaged?
Five randomly selected students each agreed that the right time to get engaged is when you’re 20 or 21 years old. Jessica Abbey, a 19-year -old freshman, said that some people stereotype young engagements as “being too young” or urge couples “why don’t you wait?” Abbey said she doesn’t think “it’s bad to get engaged or married early because if you’ve been with someone a long time and you know you’re meant to be with them, then it’s okay to get married earlier.” Michael Welch, a 19-year-old sophomore, offers a man’s perspective, saying “if it’s the right time and they’re both mature enough to actually think about it, then age shouldn’t matter.” Cassondra Vickers, an elementary education major, said that she has “always wanted to be engaged for about a year and then get married.” Vickers said she would love to be engaged her senior year but doesn’t want to get married till she graduates college. Couples should also think about being able to afford a ring or wedding. People magazine state
