Pits open at 11am and first race at 1pm. Not to be confused with the youth soapbox derby, Red Bull Soapbox Race is a national race for amateur drivers, which is fueled by creativity and competitive fun – not to mention the need for speed. This unique non-motorized racing event challenges both experienced racers and amateurs alike to design and build outrageous, human-powered soapbox dream machines and compete against the clock in a downhill race. This unique non-motorized racing event challenges both experienced racers and amateurs alike to design and build outrageous, human-powered soapbox dream machines and compete against the clock in a downhill race. Red Bull has produced more than 35 Soapbox Races around the world – from Australia to South Africa, Helsinki to St. Louis, and Jamaica to Italy. The first Red Bull Soapbox Race was held in Brussels in 2000. This year Red Bull Soapbox Race will visit Atlanta on August 29, and Los Angeles on September 26. 40-50 teams from the submitted applications will be selected for each of the pit stops. They will be chosen on the same criteria they’ll be judged on the day of the event: speed, creativity and showmanship. pplicants can contact their city’s Pit Crew Liaison at the email address found

The best and brightest that CSULB has to offer will be on display this weekend, racing through the streets of downtown Los Angeles in some of the wittiest, funniest, and spectacularly designed soapbox racecars to ever cross the checkered flag in the Red Bull Soapbox Race tomorrow. Team Banana Hammock enters a car whose name speaks for itself, as the driver will steer while being suspended from a swinging hammock that likely does not meet most American crash standards. Team On A Boat has constructed a yacht from their car to mimic the popular Saturday Night Live music video “I’m On A Boat” and will make you feel like you and your flippy-floppies are right there with them. Team Dorm Livin’ will send a highly un-aerodynamic racecar that consists of a bunkbed setup on wheels, with a little – ahem – animatronic movement occurring on the top bunk.
