When Is the New Zealand Driving Age Going to be changed?
They haven’t actually decided to raise the age yet. Raising the driving age is just one suggestion on a list of possible ways to lower the road toll that the National Government is considering right now. Lowering speed limits and changing the give way rules are also on the list, which has something like 50 items. They may not change the driving age at all, the Labour Government considered it and rejected the idea a couple times in the last few years. If they do decide to put it up they likely won’t vote on it till sometime next year and the change won’t be immediate. Likely it will not affect you. Even if it does they are only considering raising it to 16 or 17, and very likely it would be only 16. At the moment NZ has about the lowest driving age in the world, even going up to 16 would keep it younger than most of America and all of Europe. In Australia it takes to about age 21 depending on the state to get a full licence and there are much stricter rules for provisional licence holde
