I scream, you scream, we all scream for…Austin’s third annual Ice Cream Festival? It seems like most people still don’t know about this Waterloo Park event on Saturday, August 15 – which is a shame. It’s a family-friendly ice cream bonanza during the dog days of summer. What’s not to love? Last year’s festival featured vendors like Amy’s Ice Creams, Ben & Jerry’s and Paciugo gelato. And to give the tastebuds a break, there were also cupcakes from Hey Cupcake! and bottles of Sweet Leaf Tea on hand. This year’s festivities include an ice cream eating contest (brain freeze, anyone?), a homemade ice cream contest, a popsicle stick sculpture contest and even a screaming contest. Oh, and live music, games, arts & crafts and sprinklers. Rumor also has it from an event organizer that Food Network will be at Saturday’s event, shooting an episode of Glutton for Punishment. For more info: Austin Ice Cream Festival, August 15 at Waterloo Park, 1301 Trinity St., 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Admission $5, 12

Family and Friends: Admission is $5 for adults, but kids under 12 get in free—and attendees are encouraged to bring their pets (because even Spot likes ice cream). Festival organizers expect about 15,000 people. Wonderful Ice Cream Treats: Vendors sell ice cream tastes for around $1. Quite a crowd!: Festival organizers expect about 15,000 people. And a Bonus: Some proceeds go to the local Big Brothers Big Sisters foundation. And really, you’ve got to be some kind of summer scrooge to not love ice cream—especially in the throes of August’s heat. Austin’s Saturday forecast calls for sun, with temperatures topping out at a balmy 101 degrees. Perfect for a frosty sweet treat. The Details: Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Waterloo Park.
