When is the best time to transplant a rose of sharon bush ?
The best time to transplant bushes and trees is in the fall after leaves have dropped or in the spring before they have started to bud. For trees of your size, I’d keep a 2-3 foot root ball. Dig a trench around each tree using a sharp spade to cut the roots cleanly. I’d have the hole for the new location dug so that you could transplant each tree immediately. Plant the trees at the same depth as they were growing and give them adequate water for the first couple of weeks. Mulching will help conserve moisture. you will also need to stake the trees for support the first year. If you are moving them from a shady to a sunny location, you might want to use some tree wrap to prevent sun scald on the trunk. Depending on your skill level, you can also rent small tree spades that will make the job much easier, or consider hiring a professional to move them for you. These are relatively fast growing trees, so you may want to consider starting over with smaller specimens if this is too much work
