When is the best time to prune crepe/wax myrtle trees?
As is true with the majority of trees, the best time to prune is while they are domant. Here in Virginia that is up to mid-March. I prune mine in February. In NW Florida I would guess that late January would be your best bet. Crepe Myrtles are very forgiving trees and if you have to prune I would say go ahead but try to avoid cutting anything thicker than the base of your index finger. Realize too that you will be reducing flower production by pruning at this late date. It’s almost June. If you don’t NEED to, don’t.
