When is The Best Time to Plant Seeds and Summer Bulbs?

Although it is important to wait until your ground is dry to start digging (so you don’t compact the soil), it is more important to wait until the ground is warm to start planting. The basic rule of thumb is: do not plant until risk of freeze has passed. That means the NORMAL last freeze date for your area. Many gardeners were surprised (tricked!!) this spring by an unusual heat wave which made them get out in their gardens too early. Just about the time that their new seeds and bulbs sprouted, along came a freeze and wiped out all their hard work. A few plants like cool soil to start (peas for example). But most plants like to have the soil warmed up a bit. Some like it to get real warm before you plant (tomatoes and eggplant). Do you know your growing zone? If you look on the back of the seed packet, it will tell you what zone you are in and when is the best time to plant for your area. Once you have planted, you will need to keep the area moist until the seeds/bulbs sprout. Be sure
