When is the best time to lay a lawn?
Generally speaking it is best to put in a lawn is in the fall. There will usually be warm enough days to allow it to grow but not be so hot as to dry it out quckly, and the nights are cool but not freezing yet. It also depends on what type of grass you are planting as to how well it will grow during that time. If you are planting a cool season grass then it should grow best in temps of 65ºf – 80ºf degrees. Warm season grasses do best at temps between 80ºf -95ºf degrees. The least expensive way is to plant seeds. You do not get instant gratification like sod, but you will spend much less. Site preperation is one of the most important aspects of planting a new lawn. The ground should be tilled, and nutrients should be applied for the new grass plants. That could be in the form of fertilizer or compost. Exact amounts of any soil amendment can only be determined after a soil sample is tested. A quick search on the interent will help you find a place that can do that for you.
